Markilux Awning Textiles
Awnings Designed to Last Dyeing Markilux offers sunsilk and sunvas, both of which are made with high-tech polyesters, offering fantastic UV radiation protection. These materials are the future of awning fabrics, with impressive longevity and fantastic self-cleaning properties. Developments in the dying process have also meant that the range of colours is now much wider. Previously, colours would have to be dyed in huge quantities, meaning only a few colour options were available, however colours can now be printed in much smaller quantities, making them far more cost-effective. Both the sunvas and the sunsilk materials are environmentally friendly, and completely non-toxic. All Markilux fabrics are certified with the ‘Okotex’ label, confirming that they adhere to Oko-Tex Standard 100 regarding harmful materials. All technical values have been tested in Germany by the manufacturer, but also independently to confirm the technical characteristics.
Bonding Markilux’s ‘ultrasonic bonding’ process is a marked improvement on other styles of joining fabrics, particularly for the purposes of awnings and blinds. Markilux also refer to a ‘holohedral’ bonding process, which has replaced the older method of stitching panels together, offering a number of benefits. By bonding the panels together, the lifespan of these awnings is increased, as the thread that weathered and perished over time is no longer used. This thread was also susceptible to wearing when coming into contact with the bearings, which is no longer a concern. The bonded panels also no not let water or light through at all, which the stitching join did. Being bonded instead of stitched also means the finish is smoother, which leads to less wear when being operated, extending the lifespan of Markilux awnings even more. Note: If you wish to have your fabrics stitched rather than bonded, it must be made explicitly clear when ordering. Some conservatory awnings cannot be bonded, and are stitched as a result.

Gibus presents its NEW Med Jeans pergola
Minimal design and practicality for small outdoor spaces

As summer approaches, spending time outdoors becomes a real pleasure. To create a comfortable, cosy corner, even in the smallest of spaces, we have designed a totally unique product: Med Jeans, the new Gibus pergola. This innovative product, with its slender, clean lines, has been especially developed to harmonize perfectly with buildings characterized by small outdoor spaces, such as urban homes, terraced houses or apartments with terraces. Every detail has been designed by the Gibus Research & Development department with this aim in mind, from the light structure, conceived as a lean-to attached to an exterior wall, made of powder-coated aluminium, to the slender profile of the posts and guides, which have dimensions of 60 x 100 millimetres. The Med Jeans pergola is available in two versions: single module, with a width of up to 450 centimetres, and two modules, which reach 700 cm. Both have a maximum projection of 500 cm and are available with either manual or motorized movement systems. The strong point of each Gibus product is the perfect balance between functionality and style: even for Med Jeans, the focus on design and attention to detail are elements that make this product efficient and elegant. The young, minimal look of this pergola is perfect for complementing any architectural style without becoming overly dominant. Thanks to its minimal design and clean, slender lines, this new pergola gives outdoor spaces a dash of dynamism and stylish cool. This effect is also achieved by the absence of exposed screws, the well-finished wall mount which hides the operating mechanisms, and the retractable PVC cover supported by horizontal profiles with the patented “Quick Block” system with aluminium front bayonet. The canopy does not just protect against UV rays, but, together with the “Weather Strip” system, it also ensures that the fabric remains waterproof. The Med Jeans solution is therefore ideal for setting up your Place Under the Sun, whether in spring and autumn or full summer, ensuring comfortable enjoyment in any climate.

Variable Light System for Mild Summer Evenings
When summer’s warm temperatures entice you to go outside, you would like to spend your days preferably until the late evening hours outdoors, or on your own balcony or patio. A possibly variable lighting system is needed for the matching atmosphere, from cosy to well lit.
Here, the shade providers such as the Markilux 6000 show their practical side. According to the manufacturer, the patio awning does not only offer comfortable solar protection for different living areas during the day, but also spot lights integrated in the projection profile offer the possibility to set atmospheric light accents in the evening.
Depending on the size interval of the awning, between two to six new energy-saving LED spot lights (24 Volts/4.8 Watt) can be used. The swivelling spot lights can now also be switched on and off comfortably at the touch of a button using an electronic radio receiver and hand transmitter.
Optionally you can also use the radio system io-homecontrol to control the brightness of the LED spot lights, which have a light colour of 2,700 Kelvin. This permits the creation of warm cosy to bright friendly colour rooms, depending on the awning fabric chosen, which invite to let the evening pass outside protected by an awning roof. -

For the third time in only four months that our awnings manufacturer Markilux can look forward to an internationally renowned award for its new design awning MX-1/MX-1 compact. After the Interior Innovation Award 2015 and the iF Design Award 2015, this time the awning received the reddot design award 2015 for its high design quality.
With the reddot design award 2015, the MX-1 received the third internationally recognised prize within a very short time. This does not only ensure good vibes for Markilux, but also for the designer professor Andreas Kramer from Bremen: “If a concept for a new product develops in your mind, it is natural to ask yourself, how this idea and design will be received? If you are then showered with prizes like for the MX-1, this is something truly special!”
Surprise with a new design
This success, however, is possible only as a team. For several years he has been experimenting together with the Markilux product development to find an expressive design. “This process resulted in many award-winning products, and now the most recent one, the new patio awning. We try every time to make an unusual aspect stand out, and we seem to have succeeded in this with the MX-1”, says Kramer happily.
Managing director Dan Schmitz, who provided the impetus for the novel body of the MX-1 with protruding roof function, is also enthusiastic to have won another prize for this design. “We were already able to impress renowned designers and design professors as well as trade journalists with the futuristic look of the MX-1. Now all that remains is that the end customer likes the awning. “However, after a very convincing start into the season 2015 things are looking definitely positive.
According to the Design Centre North Rhine-Westphalia, the reddot design award is one of the largest and most renowned product awards in the world. In 2015, about 2,000 creative minds from 56 countries with around 5,000 design concepts took part in the competition for product design, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. -

London Roof Top Installation
Samson Awnings have just completed the roof top installation of a Weinor Pergotex system on the 7th floor of an office block in central London. Due to the high and exposed location the Pergotex was chosen as it has a tested capability to deal with winds up to Beaufort scale 8 and with the PVC cover coupled with lateral support bars the system has a high level of fabric tension enabling it to withstand heavy rainfall too.
The location is stunning and the area has been designed for corporate hospitality for the clients offices.
This attractive addition to the London skyline can be viewed from every major central London building.
The Weinor Pergotex is one of the products Samson Awnings regularly install for all year round weather protection but with the added advantage of being able to fully retract the fabric roof system when the weather dictates. The fabric roof is fully automatic with various control systems for operation and safety systems in case of extra high wind conditions.
The tough PVC fabric roof is further strengthened with aluminium support struts along the width and in this installation 2 units were coupled together for a large cover of approximately 70 square metres!!
The front and sides can be filled with various optional systems such as vertical blinds, sliding glass doors and so on to truly create an outdoor room area for many people to use all year round.
The aluminium framework is prefinished in a choice of colours and the rainwater is directed into a front guttering profile where the water is dispersed down one or some of the support legs and out to clear the covered area.
With the fabric roof fully retracted the Pergotex still looks smart on any building, gone are the days of multiple support tubes across the width making the framework overpowering and unattractive when not in use.
