The retractable fabric pergola is a way to provide covered outdoor space for larger areas and also with the peace of mind the system will deal with sun, wind and rain to a far greater level than a normal self-supporting awning can. These pergolas (or canopies) are perfect for creating an outdoor area which will have most of the year round protection and can also be retracted to the open air if required. Rainwater is designed to run off the front of some systems or to collect into a rainwater guttering on others, with drainage down through front support posts to ground level.

BASIC RETRACTABLE PERGOLA

Our range of retractable fabric pergolas are wall mounted, front leg supported systems with the fabric cover pulled taught by a pulley and tension system in the sidetracks. The systems are capable of use in higher winds and rain than a normal self-supporting awning and can have greater projections as there are no hinged arms used in the mechanism.

All the systems are electrically operated as standard for maximum tension in the fabric.

Made to measure and with a choice of over 200 fabrics and over 60 frame colours this is a great system for sunshade and rain protection for larger patio areas, or where there is an issue with fixings and structural support on a single storey building.

These basic pergola systems can still have options such as LED lighting and a dropdown front valance for additional shading and privacy. A telescopic post to one of the front posts is also a desirable option to provide low sun shading later in the day and direct rainwater off from one side specifically if required.

LUXURY RETRACTABLE PERGOLA

The larger retractable roof systems we offer can provide cover for very large areas indeed, domestic or commercial. Made to measure, with projections up to 6.5m and any width as the units can be coupled together as required. The fabric cover is zipped into the side channels for maximum cover tension and maximum rainwater dispersal down to the front profile. We offer systems with a front profile and a built in rainwater guttering.

The heavier duty framework systems are modular and able to have side and front vertical protection systems added at any time such as vertical blinds, sliding glass doors or just solid glass or aluminium panels. The pergola system can be totally enclosed if required for maximum weather protection at the touch of a button or the simple sliding of doors.

For further enhancement of the outdoor space created you can add a drop down valance system for the front of this pergola, LED lighting in various strategic points, infra-red heating, and telescopic front posts to allow lowering when required on one side or both sides.

This can be either manual or electric operation and provides redirection of rainwater flow off the cover or shading from low lying sun later in the day…

MODULAR RETRACTABLE PERGOLA

Our range of modular pergola systems allow the addition of integrated side elements at any stage after the initial pergola is installed to further enhance weather protection. The aluminium framework for the system is capable of having many different products added to the front and sides for wind and rain protection to one or all exposed apertures.

The retractable roof is a tough layered fabric (generally triple layered) and can withstand heavy rain and strong winds. Rather than rolling into a cassette the roof fabric will concertina to the rear of the unit to sit under a protective roof section. The framework incorporates a horizontal cross beam at the front which has built in rainwater guttering to take the rainwater away and out down the support legs at low level.

To the sides, add sliding glass doors, folding doors, hinged doors, vertical blinds and solid sections of aluminium or glass, all designed to protect and make the environment as pleasant as possible for outdoor living and entertaining most of the year round. Lighting and heating can also be added and controlled from the same hand transmitter as used for the roof.

As these enhanced and more robust modular pergolas have the ability to carry more weight the options available are more often used as the intended purpose is more of the year outdoors.

LED lighting and infra-red heating is commonly included, and the sides are more often infilled to provide as near to complete enclosure from the elements as possible but with the beauty of a retractable roof.

STANDALONE RETRACTALBE PERGOLA

Samson offer a range of totally standalone structures with a retractable fabric roof integrated as well as other options now with the louvre blades.

Any of the systems we show in here can be standalone using an aluminium goal post framework which allows use where there is little or nothing to fix to on the adjacent building.

We offer open sided or closed systems with integrated rainwater collection. A standalone system is often used adjacent to single storey structures where there is insufficient height or fixings or where a horizontal flat profile is required rather than a sloping roof design. The fabric roof system used will always either have an arc shape in the roof or a slope when hidden behind the facade of certain models.

The basic system uses an arched shape fabric roof with a concertina stacking when open with the rainwater dispersed either one side or both sides depending on the roof design chosen and the application. Like other fabric retractable roof systems, the fabric used is very tough and totally waterproof with high levels of resistance to UV rays.

EXTRA LARGE RETRACTALBE PERGOLA FOR COMMERCIAL USE

All the retractable pergola systems are suitable for commercial applications, but we find most commercial applications are obviously larger and the larger the system is the more cost effective the capital outlay becomes, and the square metre cost reduces.

A large outdoor area capable of being used most of the year round will add obvious benefits to any business relying on customers., More of them staying longer and sending more is an obvious winning formula, but also creating an outdoor space which is desirable to sit under may also bring additional customers anyway, especially in the Spring, Summer and Autumn months

The most important factor with these extra-large structures is having one tested, built and designed to work with UK climate as the structure is up all year round and needs to be able to deal with the harsher winter weather. A lot of systems are finding their way into the UK from manufacturers in countries where winter isn’t really a concept. They will fall foul of the harsh UL climate, air moisture content and nowadays very strong winds for longer periods.

Obviously, all these commercial systems are generally totally different for each application, not only in size, but also in specification in terms of the LED lighting, heating and side infills used.

It is possible to cover very large areas indeed with these pergola structures.

They can be joined together on the rear section and also front section to extend projection.

They can be standalone using an aluminium box section framework or joined directly to a building to provide a seamless exit to the outdoor area.

BIOCLIMATIC RETRACTALBE PERGOLA

The bioclimatic louvre bladed pergola is a flat roof principal with a slight pitch in the louvre blades used to provide water drainage into the integrated guttering which is on all 4 sides of the structure (3 on a lean to system). The louvre roof system offers all year round protection and at the push of a button allows air movement and sunlight in but with control on the amount by the aluminium blades which rotate up to a full 135 degrees from their closed position.

The best overall system is one where you retract the blades to expose around 80% of clear sky when required rather than always having interrupted sky view.

LED lights integrated into the roof, or the perimeter provide use into the night and various forms of heaters provide warmth in the cooler months. Bear in mind that with a louvre bladed roof you will close all the blades in rain, and this will give a total blackout roof, so lighting is far more important than with our fabric roof systems where light still comes through.

The louvred retractable pergola can be attached to an existing building or have its own standalone support because of its design, making it perfect where the building cannot be fixed to, or the system needs to be away from any supporting structure.
