  • Can my awning be used in the rain and snow?

A retractable folding arm fabric awning is primarily a sun shading product. The fabric is water resistant and can be left out in light rain provided the awning is set at a sufficient pitch (ideally 14° or more) so water runs off rather than pooling. In heavy or wind driven rain, and in any frost or snow, the awning should be retracted to prevent water pooling, fabric stretching or potential wind damage. If the awning is retracted while wet, extend it again at the next opportunity to let it dry. Electric models can be fitted with wind and rain sensors to retract automatically, but these are an aid, not a substitute for due care. If you want retractable roof protection from the rain and possibly snow then look at the pergolas offered by Samson Awnings.
