How much does a retractable awning cost?

A high quality, made to measure retractable patio awning typically starts from around £2,000, with most fully featured installations falling between £2,000 and £8,000 depending on size, model and specification. You will see awnings advertised for £199–£999, but these are very different products – usually light duty designs intended only for occasional use in calm, sunny conditions, rather than longer term, all weather installations. Key factors that affect the price include:

• Size and projection Larger widths and projections naturally increase cost, but also improve how usable the shaded area is. In many cases the price difference between, for example, 4 m and 4.5 m wide is relatively small, so we usually recommend going as wide as practical.
• Intended use and performance Whether the awning is for simple sunshade or also for rain protection and more exposed, windy locations will influence the model, fabric and fixing method required.
• Building type and fixings Fitting to a single storey or more complex structure can require additional brackets or framework, which adds to the overall cost but ensures a safe, long‑lasting installation.
• Operation and controls Manual crank operation is normally more economical; electric or smart controlled awnings with wind/sun sensors add convenience and cost.
• Frame and fabric options Premium brands offer a wide choice of cassette/frame colours and hundreds of fabric designs, including high‑performance fabrics for better heat and glare control. Special finishes and fabrics cost more than standard options.
• Optional extras Integrated LED lighting, infrared heaters and drop down front valances will increase the price but can significantly extend how often you use the space.
