Manual or electric awning – which should I choose?
Both do the same job; the difference is convenience and safety . Manual (crank-operated) awnings are a cost effective choice for smaller awnings, generally up to around 4m width. Electric awnings are operated at the touch of a button or via an app and are strongly recommended for larger awnings over 4m width and for anyone wanting added features.Operating a large awning manually with a 4m projection will take some effort even with assisted gearing. Our electric awnings use industry leading Somfy RTS motors as standard, with IO two way technology options, and can integrate wind/sun sensors, LED lighting, heating and smart home control. The biggest single advantage for an electric awning is having it installed with a motion or wind speed sensor which will retract your awning if the wind gets too aggressive and agitates the awning too much. This is ideal for so many owners, especially when using timers or weather sensors to extend the awning automatically in hot weather. The awning will look after itself.
