Case Study: Bespoke Branded Retractable Awnings

Club Ifor Bach has been at the heart of Cardiff’s live music scene for more than 40 years. As an independent venue known for supporting emerging Welsh talent and hosting standout events, it continues to evolve while staying true to its cultural identity. The venue’s management approached Samson Outdoor Living to create a practical and visually impactful solution for its smoking area, with the aim of improving comfort and enhancing the customer experience outdoors.

Project Overview

The client required a durable, weather-resistant awning system that would provide reliable shelter while complementing the venue’s exterior. Samson Outdoor Living designed and installed three bespoke retractable awnings to meet these requirements. Each awning measures 6m wide by 3m projection, creating a cohesive and generous covered area for guests.

To ensure long-term performance and safe operation, the installation includes an automated wind sensor for protection in strong conditions. Six Evergreen infrared heaters were also incorporated, helping to make the space more comfortable throughout the year. In addition, LED arm lighting was fitted to provide an attractive finish and improve usability after dark.

Custom-printed fabric was applied to both the awnings and valances, giving the installation a bold branded appearance. This tailored finish enhances the venue’s exterior and ensures the structure reflects the character of Club Ifor Bach.

THE RESULT

The completed installation has transformed the outdoor space into a sheltered, comfortable and visually impactful area for guests. Clwb Ifor Bach was delighted with the final result and the improvement it has brought to the venue’s exterior.
