Markilux Retractable Awning, Surrey.

This customer from Thames Ditton in Surrey contacted us as he had brought a couple of light weight awnings from one of our competitors that specialise in the budget end of the garden shading market.

The customer had a 7m width that he wanted to cover and was sold two 3.5m awnings which were butted up next to each other to appear as one unit. As soon as the awnings were installed the customer realised they were very poor quality, both aesthetically and in terms of engineering and he quickly became very concerned by the way they violently shook in the slightest breeze.

Although these awnings seem like a bargain at the time of purchase, ultimately you get what you pay for! There are limited replacement parts available and as the budget awnings are manufactured to last a couple of years it is inevitable that you will require spares sooner or later. Other typical short cuts include: not treating the cover with a waterproof protection or not giving the cover any anti UV protection. This results in fading of the fabric after just one year and also tends to encourage mould to grow into the fabric and around the sewn edges of the fabric.  All metal parts are powder coated to protect them from corroding but to save money in production the coating is very thin.

After several issues the customer raised a dispute with the company and the units were soon after removed from the property which allowed us to upgrade the customer to an absolutely beautiful 7m wide x 4m projection Markilux 5010 heavy duty awning.
