Example 4 – Retractable Fabric Canopy and Retractable Side Screen

Front post and rear wall plate supported retractable fabric canopy (Pergola system) with a full cassette housing and fixed framework in aluminium with additional retractable side screen.

Higher wind rating as the fabric cover is held firmly on all 4 sides with the side channels providing lateral tension. Front support posts prevent any movement in windy conditions, little force is exerted onto the rear brackets against the wall.

Pull out spring tensioned fabric side screen with fixed post for locking out when extended.

Disadvantages

Support posts and side channels are a fixed feature but are unobtrusive with careful consideration to the position and colour chosen.

Difficult to achieve suitable height on single storey buildings but possible with additional bracketry.

Pull out awning does require a solid structure for the cassette and a suitable fixed position for the lock out post although portable solutions are available.

High wind rating as the enhanced vinyl fabric cover is held firmly on all 4 sides with the side support channels providing lateral tension and additional strength is provided with aluminium cross support struts. The system ensures all rainwater is directed down to the front gutter profile with the taller side profiles preventing water over the sides.

Front support posts prevent any movement in windy conditions and also provide the downpipes for rainwater dispersal

Little force is exerted onto the rear brackets against the wall making installation easier in many cases for single storey buildings.
