RETRACTABLE ELECTRIC PERGOLA SYSTEM WITH DROP DOWN VALANCE

This installation on a private flat balcony in a small marina in Bedfordshire was to provide proper shelter and create space to enable far more use of the balcony and views.

Both balconies have the same system with a fully retractable pergola system at a size of 4800m wide and a projection of 3000mm. The retractable fabric cover is driven in and out under tension by electric motor and a tensioned belt system in the side channels of the aluminium structure.
This provides a nice taught and tough fabric canopy which will deal with sunshine and rainfall.

The ‘Valance Plus’ is the front drop down valance which is provides additional shade from low lying sun but also great privacy and shelter from cooler breezes. It is manually operated with a simple winding handle on this example.

One of the front support posts is telescopic on this installation, giving a lower front to one side when required to disperse rainwater faster and more directly. Again, this is a simple winding mechanism and drops the one side by around 400mm maximum.

This is a great way to provide an outside area which can be used most of the year round and can be further enhanced with LED lighting and infra-red heating if required, all depending which way your balcony or garden faces.
