NEW for Winter 2022 – The Samson 5500 Retractable Awning

The newest addition to our extensive range of awnings is a full cassette, folding arm, retractable awning, which is a made to measure awning as standard and available in manual or electric operated form.

A beautiful curved front profile and slim cassette design provide a superb looking and versatile awning for both commercial and domestic applications.

The Samson 5500 awning is ideal for sizes up to 5500mm wide with a maximum projection of 3100mm and a fully adjustable pitch for the fabric cover when extended. The awning can be adjusted from a flat, horizontal position to 75 degrees of angle when mounted on a vertical wall. The awning can also be mounted vertically to a ceiling or balcony to extend downwards or at an angle as required.

The 5500 is a fully cassetted awning with all the components neatly folded away when closed into an aluminium cassette housing, with between 181mm and 244mm of projection all depending on the angle the awning cover is set at when installed.

The awning cassette and knuckle jointed support arms are all manufactured in aluminum and factory finished in either white (RAL9010) or Anthracite Grey (RAL7016) as standard at no extra charge.

The arms feature stainless steel link arms for the standard model and a bionic type tendon in models with built in LED lighting. Both systems hold the extended awning rigid and taught for the best overall stability.

PRINTING

Advertise your business on your awning cover.

A wide range of solid fabric colours exist and these are perfect for printing logos and lettering to advertise your business externally.

Possibly the best way to provide a large brand logo which is presented fully when the awning is extended.

CONTROLS

A manual awning is simply wound in and out with a steel winding handle placed to one side of the awning cassette via an eyelet hanging out to connect to. This can be a little tedious once the awning gets to over around 4m wide and certainly at the larger projections.

Electric operation is far more the normal method in the 21st century, especially as it gives the safety of a wind speed or vibration sensor incorporated, to detect when the awning is exposed to higher winds. When this happens the awning retracts itself automatically for safety and is often the saviour when a summer storm is approaching and the winds are increasing.

Normal control for an electric awning is via a hand held remote transmitter with a very simple in, stop and out button arrangement.

The Samson 5500 awning uses only Somfy motor drive systems, a world leader in electric motor drives and also control systems. The Somfy Tahoma Smart control integration offers a chance to enter the wonderful world of Smart controls. The awning would be then controlled by your smart phone or tablet with the options of many ‘scenarios’ using other detection hardware such as temperature or sunlight sensors.

So, for example when the temperature inside a room where the awning is shading gets too high, the awning would extend to help control the sunlight and heat. Of course the wind sensor would still prevail if it was an issue…

Smart control is definitely the future for so many home appliances and you can further extend way beyond just the awning with doors, blinds, cameras, lights and other products around the home, all controlled from one place.
