FAQs

What is the best retractable roof system?

This is a bit difficult as it depends on the intended use for the terrace cover
The range of terrace covers we offer is extensive with all of them being fabric roof covers but differing in the structure material for the main framework and the fabric itself and how it travels down the length of the projection.

For all round use in the UK as a pure patio or terrace cover without sides or a front the Markilux Pergola 110 and 210 systems offer the best all round use and best value for money. The system is simple a fixed full cassette on the wall with 2 projecting guides supported at the front to provide a fabric cover system capable of dealing with much higher levels of wind than a normal patio awning and also capable of projecting much further to (up to 6000mm). The Pergola has an optional ‘zip’ system for the fabric to be firmly connected to the side channels for the tightest finish for the cover material and also ensure rainwater does not splash over the edges of the fabric but all end up at the front edge of the unit.

The Weinor Plaza and Plaza Pro also offer a similar system with the added capability of being able to specify the front edge to curve around and downwards slightly for even more protection at the front edge. Fabric running down in channels with a fixed cassette to the back wall is still the same principal. There is no rain water guttering system on this solution as the water is designed to fall off the front only.

The Gibus systems we offer can be taken further with either an aluminium or timber structure specified with a fabric roof further strengthened using aluminium cross struts to create a roof when closed capable of a snow loading and therefore unlike the others able to be used all year round. The front and sides can be closed in with either fixed or retractable blinds and other materials such as glass or polycarbonate depending on use and placement. Built in rainwater guttering is normal on these systems to take the water away efficiently. Lights and heaters can be added to truly create an all year round outdoor area.

Weinor also now offer a very similar system called a Pergotex and this also has the strengthened roof cover system with built in guttering and the possibility to add the fantastic frameless sliding glass doors from Weinor, the W-17 system as used on their glass rooms.

Whatever your need to cover either a domestic patio or commercial terrace Samson awnings have a suitable system available.
